What's left behind the scenes
- Marlon Brando received $1 million for a small role as Father MacFlurry, which he was supposed to play in the opening scene of the film, parodying "The Exorcist" (1973). However, a few days before filming began, the famous actor fell ill with pneumonia and withdrew from the project. However, no one demanded that Brando return the money paid to him. The role of MacFlurry was then offered to Charlton Heston, but he declined it. Ultimately, James Woods played the part.
- Many people bought tickets to this film just to watch the trailer for Kevin Smith's "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" before it began. After the commercial ended, many viewers left the theater.
- The song Hanson sings to Cindy previously appeared in "Poltergeist II" (1986) performed by a priest.
- The opening scene featuring James Woods parodies the film "The Exorcist" (1973). The film also contains parodies of "The Amityville Horror" (1979), "Poltergeist II" (1986), "The Haunting" (1999), "What Lies Beneath" (2000), and "Charlie's Angels" (2000).
- An alternative ending featuring Father MacFlurry was filmed, in which Cindy discovers that all her friends are dead. However, this ending was ultimately rejected.
- Megan Voorhees is the heroine of the first scene, her surname alluding to Mrs. Voorhees and her son Jason from "Friday the 13th".
- This is the only "Scary Movie" filmed in America. All other installments were filmed in British Columbia and Canada.
- Cindy drives out of the freezer on a Caterpillar bulldozer.
