• All the scenes in the prison cell were filmed in one day.
• The character of Simi Siddiqui is based on a real person – Pakistani human rights activist and prominent lawyer Asma Jahangir. The role was intended for Aishwarya Rai, but she declined it.
• Veer’s prisoner number, 786, which lawyer Samia mentions to the guard, is considered a ‘sign from God.’ According to the Arabic numeral system, which assigns a numerical value to each letter, the number 786 represents the numerical value of the phrase ‘Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim’ (‘In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful!’), the first verse of the Quran.
• Filming of the prison scenes took only one day. Shah Rukh Khan had to wear a wig for these scenes.
• Initially, the script called for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play the role of Samia, but she had a falling out with Khan during filming of Aziz Mirza’s melodrama “Roads of Love” (2003), and Rani Mukherji played the role in both films instead.
• Operator Anil Mehta added a brownish tint to the film to create a mood of "past golden days" and convey a sense of nostalgia and memories. This trick was later used by the creators of many other films.
• Cinematographer Anil Mehta added a sepia tone to the film to give the on-screen events a feeling of “gone golden days” and convey a sense of nostalgia and memories. This trick was later used by the creators of many other films.
