The plot of Roderick Thorpe's second novel about police officer Joseph LeLand (Nothing Lasts Forever, 1979) was used as the basis for the film "Die Hard" (1988), in which the main character, played by Bruce Willis, was named John McClane.
Frank Sinatra (1915-1998) was supposed to star in this film with his wife, but Mia Farrow was busy with Roman Polanski on the cult film "Rosemary's Baby" (1968), which was drastically behind schedule, and therefore declined. Sinatra was so angry that he replaced Farrow with actress Jacqueline Bisset, and Farrow informed him of the divorce right on the set of "Rosemary's Baby".
