What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, the film was planned for theatrical release, but in 2018, Netflix acquired the distribution rights.
- In 2017, the jury of the Cannes Film Festival decided not to admit films created solely for distribution by Netflix or other streaming media distributors into the competition program. A year later, Netflix launched a campaign in support of a boycott of the Cannes Film Festival. One of those who supported Netflix was Mexican director, screenwriter, and producer Alfonso Cuarón. Thus, the film "Roma" could not be included in the Cannes Film Festival program and nominated for an "Oscar" award.
- The film is named after the Roma neighborhood of Mexico City, where the film takes place. This district is located in the Cuauhtémoc borough, west of the city's historic center.
