• Even during filming, attempts were repeatedly made to ban the film. Associations of parents of students from independent schools (APEL) collected tens of thousands of signatures on a petition against the film. In 1966, the French Minister of Culture banned the screening of "The Nun." However, this did not prevent the film from passing the Cannes Film Festival selection committee. A paradoxical situation arose: in 1966, France was represented at the festival by a film banned in France itself. The ban was lifted a year later.
