Short description
Three teenage brothers, gang-member Bobby, troubled mama's boy Alan and self-assured prankster Lex, reside in a downtrodden section of Glasgow, Scotland, circa 1968. But while Bobby and Alan are beginning to experience the power of raging hormones, the story focuses on Lex, who begins a downward spiral after he accidentally shoots the leader of Bobby's gang. Lex's cockiness and immaturity unfortunately prevent him from understanding the effect his subsequent crimes will have on both himself, and on those around him.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on Irvin Welsh's debut novel "Trainspotting" (1993).
  • The murals on the wall of the "Vulcan" club are similar to those on the walls of the "Korova Milk Bar" from Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange" (1971).
  • Among the drawings, you can also spot Robert De Niro and Jodie Foster in Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver" (1976).
  • Sick Boy is obsessed with James Bond. The actor who played him, Jonny Lee Miller, is the grandson of Bernard Lee, who played M in the Bond series until 1979.
  • The security guard in the shop at the beginning of the film is John Hodge, the screenwriter.
  • Australia recorded a peculiar record – 'Trainspotting' became the film most often stolen from video stores.
  • The final scene where Spud retrieves money from a locker is reminiscent of a similar scene in 'Once Upon a Time in America' (1983).
