Short description
George W. Bush picks Dick Cheney, the CEO of Halliburton Co., to be his Republican running mate in the 2000 presidential election. No stranger to politics, Cheney's impressive résumé includes stints as White House chief of staff, House Minority Whip and Defense Secretary. When Bush wins by a narrow margin, Cheney begins to use his newfound power to help reshape the country and the world.
What's left behind the scenes
- According to Christian Bale, Adam McKay welcomed improvisation on set. The actor's preparation for the role of Dick Cheney was quite serious and in-depth. Bale needed to study not only Cheney's body language but also his manner of speaking. Moreover, he had to learn the names of all the government programs that Cheney, the 46th Vice President of the United States, could not have been unaware of.
- Christian Bale gained almost 20 kg (44 lbs) in weight, shaved his head, and bleached his eyebrows. The actor later revealed that he was able to gain weight thanks to eating a lot of pies.
- Amy Adams remained in character throughout the entire filming period. She even argued with the director on political topics, speaking in the voice of her character.
