What's left behind the scenes

  • James Cagney (1899-1986) experienced so many negative emotions during filming that he abandoned his acting career for 20 years and did not reappear on screen until a cameo role in Miloš Forman's drama "Ragtime" (1981).
  • The construction of the Berlin Wall began on the night of August 13, 1961, right through the film set near the Brandenburg Gate. Upon learning of the start of construction the next morning, the film crew moved to Munich, where they finished shooting the necessary scenes in the parking lot of Bavaria Film Studios, for which they had to build the lower part of the Brandenburg Gate.
