What's left behind the scenes

  • The Grimteuthis octopus species, represented by the main character, Dinky, lives in the depths of the ocean and has been found at depths of up to 7,000 meters. Usually, these octopuses reach a length of 20 centimeters when mature, but the largest specimen of this genus ever recorded was about 180 centimeters long and weighed about 6 kilograms. In addition to its scientific name, this species of octopus is also called Dumbo, due to the formations on its head resembling the ears of the elephant from the Disney cartoon of the same name.
  • The anglerfish Ivo got its name from the glowing "fishing rod with bait," which is a growth on its head. It is also known as the "sea devil." It lures its prey with an elongated spine, bending it around the bait, while the end of the spine glows to attract unsuspecting fish to its mouth and sharp teeth. Their mouths are so large, and their bodies so flexible, that they can swallow prey twice their size.
  • The shrimp Alice is shown as a very impulsive character in the cartoon for a reason. In the real animal world, the shrimp is the noisiest creature in the ocean. The noise from a large school of shrimp can "blind" the sonar of a submarine.
