- In the 1990s, Dan Aykroyd envisioned sending the Ghostbusters to hell in the 3rd film. The idea was later abandoned, otherwise the American Film Association would have given the film a "PG-13" rating (under 13s admitted only with parents), and the British Board of Film Classification would have given it a "12" rating (for those aged 12 and over).
- Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman who directed the first "Ghostbusters" (1984), was once asked if he was considering rebooting the franchise. Reitman joked that, judging by his previous directorial work, the new Ghostbusters film would just be people talking.
- Production of the third Ghostbusters film stalled for almost 15 years, until director Paul Feig took on the task of rebooting the franchise.
