What's left behind the scenes

  • At the time of the film's release, no albino gorillas were known to exist; the first documented albino gorilla was Copito de Nieve, captured in Equatorial Guinea in 1966.
  • Actor Robert Armstrong preferred the second film, explaining that the sequel further developed the character of his hero, Carl Denham.
  • Screenwriter Ruth Rose deliberately did not attempt to write a serious screenplay that would likely not surpass the first film. She stated: “If you can’t make it bigger, make it funnier.”
  • Originally, the script included scenes showing the panicked flight of dinosaurs during a massive earthquake that destroys Skull Island at the end of the film.
