Short description
Maggie is an alluring free spirit who won't let anyone – or anything – tie her down. But she meets her match in Jamie, whose relentless and nearly infallible charm serves him well with the ladies and the cutthroat world of pharmaceutical sales. Maggie and Jamie's evolving relationship takes them both by surprise, as they find themselves under the influence of the ultimate drug: love.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on the non-fiction autobiographical book by Jamie Reidy, "Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman" (2005), about how he sold Viagra, the truth behind the little blue pill, the people who sell arousal, and the secrets of the pharmaceutical business.
  • While preparing for filming, Jake Gyllenhaal spent considerable time with Jamie Reidy, the author of the book on which this film is based, while Anne Hathaway closely communicated with Lucy Rusis, an actress with Parkinson's disease.
  • At one point during filming, director Edward Zwick undressed and got into bed with Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal for a group photo, hoping it would help them overcome their shyness and become more relaxed. Subsequently, Zwick himself was removed from the frame using digital technology, and the photo was used to create the film's poster.
  • During rehearsals for the intimate scenes, while still clothed, the actors were instructed to improvise. Considering that it was cold on set and there were constantly people and equipment around, these rehearsals and improvisations helped the actors feel more confident during filming without clothes.
  • The film is based on Jamie Reidy's popular science autobiographical book "Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman" (2005), a true story about the blue pill that the world knows, the people who sell arousal, and the secrets of the pharmaceutical business.
