Short description

Each year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria, Arizona explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 residents for the annual Spring Break celebration. But then, an earthquake opens an underwater chasm, releasing an enormous swarm of ancient Piranha that have been dormant for thousands of years, now with a taste for human flesh. This year, there's something more to worry about than the usual hangovers and complaints from locals, a new type of terror is about to be cut loose on Lake Victoria.

What's left behind the scenes

Aleksandr Aja planned to invite safety instructors Joe Dante (director of the original film) and James Cameron (director of the sequel) to appear in cameo roles. Dante agreed, but Cameron was too busy.
In one scene, Jake Forester (Steve R. McQueen) tells his mother, "Mom, everything will be alright, we'll sit down, watch something, like 'Jaws' (1975), for example." This reference is a tribute to Richard Dreyfuss, who starred in the 1975 'Jaws'. In 'Piranha', the actor played Matt Boyd, a fisherman and the first victim of the bloodthirsty fish.
The film's premiere was originally scheduled for April 16, 2010, but was then postponed twice due to a protracted post-production process.
American porn actress Gina played a cameo role in the film.
When Deputy Fallon (Weng Raims) runs out of shotgun shells, he readily grabs the boat motor to hack the piranhas to pieces, completely forgetting about the .357 caliber revolver hanging on his belt.
