Short description
Set in a dugout in Aisne in 1918, a group of British officers, led by the mentally disintegrating young officer Stanhope, variously await their fate.
What's left behind the scenes
- R.C. Sheriff (1896-1975), the author of the play of the same name (1928) on which the film was based, knew war firsthand. In the play, he depicted the people he served with in an infantry regiment during World War I (1914-1918).
- While researching his family history, Sam Claflin discovered that his great-great-grandfather served in the battalion that participated in the Battle of Saint-Quentin (which this film depicts).
