Short description
Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet's exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity's greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming took place in Hungary, Norway (oceans on Caladan), the UAE, Austria, and Slovakia. The desert scenes on Arrakis were primarily shot in Jordan and Abu Dhabi.
  • Director Denis Villeneuve envisioned Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård) as a “rhinoceros in human form.” The actor spent 7 hours each day in makeup before filming.
  • According to director Denis Villeneuve, a year was spent developing the image of the giant sandworms of Arrakis.
  • Denis Villeneuve had dreamed of filming Frank Herbert’s novel *Dune* (1965) since reading it as a boy around the age of 12. He wanted to make a film that was close to the source material, so he first honed his skills on the science fiction films *Arrival* (2016) and *Blade Runner 2049* (2017) before tackling *Dune*.
