In early 2017, the filmmakers were denied permission to shoot in Banff, Canada’s oldest national park, because the film's antagonist was Canadian. Even popular Canadian actor Tom Jackson couldn't persuade Parks Canada.
Liam Neeson's experience working as a truck and forklift driver at Guinness came in handy when operating the snowplow.
The film crew spent four weeks in the Fortress Mountains in the Canadian province of Alberta in extreme weather conditions at an altitude of 2500 meters to realistically depict Kehoe on screen – a quiet town where a blood-red river flows beneath the white snow.
