Short description
An Englishman who resembles the king of a small European nation gets mixed up in palace intrigue when his look-alike is kidnapped.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Douglas Fairbanks originally auditioned for the role of Rudolph, but was turned down. His father advised him to try playing the villain.
  • The film is based on the novel of the same name by Anthony Hope.
  • Producer David O. Selznick (1902-1965) disliked the action scenes, particularly the fencing scenes, so at the end of filming he invited directors V.S. Van Dyke (1889-1943) and George Cukor (1899-1983) and asked them to reshoot all of those scenes.
