Short description
France, June 1944. On the eve of D-Day, some American paratroopers fall behind enemy lines after their aircraft crashes while on a mission to destroy a radio tower in a small village near the beaches of Normandy. After reaching their target, the surviving paratroopers realise that, in addition to fighting the Nazi troops that patrol the village, they also must fight against something else.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Some scenes were filmed at Bluebell Railway sites – a functioning heritage railway along the border of East Sussex and West Sussex counties, opened to the public in August 1960.
  • Initially, it was reported that the film would be the fourth installment in the "Cloverfield" film series, but on April 25th, Abrams himself announced at CinemaCon that the film would not be related to that series.
  • The first scene, in which soldiers jump out of a burning plane, was filmed as follows: the plane was suspended on a special device, its nose was blown off by an explosion, the plane was tilted as if it were actually falling, and stunt performers were used in the filming.
  • The film features more practical effects than tricks created using computer technology.
  • Wyatt Russell lost more than 11 kilograms during filming.
  • Operation Overlord, or the Normandy landings – a strategic operation of the Allied forces from June 6th to August 25th, 1944, the largest airborne operation in history, involving over 3 million people. It was carried out in 2 stages: Operation Neptune, or "D-Day," i.e., the capture of a bridgehead on the continent, and Operation Cobra, during which an offensive was launched across France.
  • It took 5 hours every day to apply makeup to Pilou Asbaek.
  • The scene with Chase's neck was filmed using mannequins and animatronics.
  • It was initially reported that the film would be the fourth installment in the Cloverfield film series, but on April 25th, Abrams himself announced at CinemaCon that the film would not be related to that series.
