Screenwriter Craig Bartlett, whose voice speaks through the ethnographer Miles, believed from the very beginning that Alfred Molina should voice the Shadow, and no one else.
Arnold and his classmates fly to San Lorenzo on a plane from Tuck Air. It was named after Tuck Tucker, the creative director of the animated series 'Hey Arnold!' (1996-2004).
In the scene where the sad Arnold walks through the park, a bearded man is sitting on a bench. This character is based on Toran Codell, the first actor to voice Arnold. When describing this character, the animators referred to him as 'hipster Toran'.
