  • This is a film adaptation of the first book in the series of novels about Angélique, written by Anne and Serge Golon.
  • In real life, Mercier is a brunette. Several dozen blonde wigs were made for the role.
  • Brigitte Bardot could have played Angélique, but she was busy filming another movie at the time. Actresses such as Catherine Deneuve, Jane Fonda, and others auditioned for the role, but were not approved. Marina Vladi won the audition for the lead role, but at the same time, the actress was invited to another film and declined to participate.
  • The film premiered at the Moulin Rouge cabaret. The famous Coco Chanel, invited to the screening, applauded standing.
  • The film ranks 31st in attendance among foreign releases in Soviet cinema distribution.
