- Brad Pitt was attacked in Belfast while practicing his accent there for filming.
- Work on the original script was abandoned, and the screenplay was rewritten at least seven times, to the point where Brad Pitt called the result complete nonsense. He even considered leaving the film's cast, but was threatened with legal action.
