In this, the sequel to Jean de Florette, Manon has grown into a beautiful young shepherdess living in the idyllic Provencal countryside. She plots vengeance on the men who greedily conspired to acquire her father's land years earlier.
What's left behind the scenes
- Yves Montand (1921-1991) grew up in the area where the film takes place. He was friends with Marcel Pagnol (1895-1974), the author of the novel on which Claude Berry's film (1934-2009) is based. When Montand was first approached with an offer to star in the film, he refused. He was persuaded to accept the offer by his wife, Simone Signoret (1921-1985), who died of cancer during filming.
