What's left behind the scenes
- The summer camp used for filming is located in New Jersey and is called Camp Nobebosco.
- Victor Miller originally gave Jason the name Josh. Deciding that it sounded too cute, he changed it to Jason after a school bully.
- The film takes place on June 13, 1958, and June 13, 1980.
- Tom Savini was one of the first crew members on board the film because the producers idolized his special effects in 'Dawn of the Dead' (1978).
- While most of the actors and crew stayed in hotels during filming, some of the dedicated cast and crew, including Tom Savini and Taso N. Stavrakis, remained on location at the camp. They had a Savani Betamax player and only a few movies – "Barbarella" (1968) and "Marathon Man" (1976) – on videotape for entertainment, so they would watch one of these films every night. To this day, Savini says he can recite those films verbatim.
- Victor Miller's working title for the script was "Long Night at Blood Camp".
- In the scene where Brenda's lifeless body flies through the window of the house, the special effects artist Tom Savini himself served as the stunt double.
- A total of 10 people are killed in the film.
- The snake scene was not in the script, and it was Tom Savini's idea after an experience in his own cabin during filming. The snake in the scene was real, including its on-screen death.
- In the scene where the killer murders Jack, a prosthetic is visible on the actor's neck.
