What's left behind the scenes

  • Director Todd Strauss-Schulson rewatched over 90 American romantic comedies in 2 weeks and noted the most common clichés: New York, Starbucks coffee, a kiss in the rain, arched windows, and a jacuzzi.
  • The filming of the actors performing the song "Express Yourself" was preceded by only 4 hours of rehearsals.
  • In the scene near the police station, the building where the series "Friends" (1994-2004) was filmed can be seen in the background.
  • Preliminary screenings showed that focus groups really enjoyed the musical numbers, so director Todd Strauss-Schulson decided to film a complex musical number with dancing for the entire cast for the film's finale.
  • The film contains over 120 references to romantic comedies – from costumes and musical themes to dialogue. Specifically, to films such as "When Harry Met Sally" (Rob Reiner, 1989), "Pretty Woman" (Garry Marshall, 1990), "13 Going on 30" (Gary Winick, 2004), and "The Fault in Our Stars" (Josh Boone, 2014).
  • For the dog-walking scene, director Todd Strauss-Schulson compiled a list of dog breeds from many romantic comedies and filmed at least one representative of each breed in the scene.
  • The filming of the actors’ performance of the song “Express Yourself” was preceded by only 4 hours of rehearsals.
