Preparing for the role of an alcoholic undergoing rehabilitation, Gwyneth Paltrow consulted with Robert Downey Jr., who once suffered from alcohol addiction, and with whom she starred in the *Iron Man* franchise (2008, 2010, 2013).
Quite successful as a country singer before starting his acting career, Tim McGraw does not sing or play any musical instruments in the film. The situation is reversed for the other actors in the main roles: they play performers.
