Short description
Three American brothers who have not spoken to each other in a year set off on a train voyage across India with a plan to find themselves and bond with each other -- to become brothers again like they used to be. Their "spiritual quest", however, veers rapidly off-course (due to events involving over-the-counter pain killers, Indian cough syrup, and pepper spray).

What's left behind the scenes

  • The brothers are named in honor of Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Bogdanovich, and Jack Nicholson.
  • Jack goes barefoot throughout the entire film – even in scenes where his feet are not visible.
  • To remember how to limp, Owen Wilson put a small lime in his shoe.
  • The train scenes were filmed on a train traveling through the Thar Desert from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer. No equipment could be attached to the ceilings, and cameras could not be mounted outside the windows at a distance of more than one meter. The filmmakers asked the railway company to provide them with ten carriages and a locomotive, which would be converted to meet the needs of the filming. Northwestern Railways had never dealt with such requests before. The request was eventually granted, but not without considerable delay.
  • The role of Peter was written specifically for Adrien Brody.
  • Almost the entire film was shot in the Thar Desert in Rajasthan, India's largest state.
  • All 11 suitcases are the creation of designer Marc Jacobs, who was the artistic director of the Louis Vuitton fashion house during the filming of the movie. Giraffes, rhinoceroses, and antelopes were painted on them by Eric Chase Anderson, the director's brother.
  • Most of the decorations on the train were handmade or embellished. This also applies to the interior of the dining car.
  • The film is dedicated to the memory of Satyajit Ray (1921-1992), the greatest Indian film director, screenwriter, children's writer, composer, producer, publisher, film critic, and illustrator, as well as the first Indian winner of an Academy Award.
  • The portrait in one of the compartments shown at the end of the film depicts Satyajit Ray.
  • The film is dedicated to the memory of Satyajit Ray (1921-1992), a prominent Indian film director, screenwriter, children's writer, composer, producer, publisher, film critic, and illustrator, as well as the first Indian to win an Academy Award.
