The original title of the film translates as 'Kindhearted Lady Kim-ja'.
In the director's cut of the film, the initially color film gradually fades and becomes black and white by the end.
Initially, director Park Chan-wook planned to make a film about the revenge of an elderly woman and, accordingly, cast a more mature actress in the lead role. He eventually changed his mind, deciding that the film would be too similar to John Cassavetes' 'Gloria' (1980).
The snow at the end of the film is not real. Salt brought in by two trucks was spread along the street and then "transformed" into snow using computer technology.
