• The Mercedes-Benz car blown up in this film was previously used in the filming of "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006). It was slightly modified and repainted specifically for "Michael Clayton."
• Jennifer Ille played Michael's girlfriend in the film. However, all scenes with her were cut.
• The film was delivered to some cinemas under the false title 'State Attorneys'.
• Denzel Washington declined the offer to play the lead role. George Clooney also initially refused the role, but then he met Tony Gilroy, talked with him for two hours, realized they saw many things the same way, and agreed. Later, Washington watched the film and expressed regret for having turned it down.
• According to George Clooney, the case the film is based on involved a 'Ford Pinto' automobile, where the problem wasn't that the model was unsafe for consumers, but an internal memo from the manufacturer that calculated the cost of recalling the sold vehicles versus the cost of individual lawsuits from consumers who died in those cars, and decided it was cheaper to lose the lawsuits and pay them out than to recall the vehicles.
