Short description
Hit man Cleve approaches writer/cop Dennis about a story for his next book: How Cleve made a living, working for one of the most powerful politicians in the country. To get the story right, they travel around the country to gather statements and evidence, while strong forces use any means they can to keep the story untold.

What's left behind the scenes

  • One of the prototypes for the character of Dennehy was a real Los Angeles police officer, Joseph Wambaugh, a model law enforcement officer and the author of a bestseller.
  • James Woods quit smoking right before filming began. When it was time to shoot the scene with a cigarette in his hand, the actor suggested simply taking a lit cigarette from someone else, so he wouldn't have to light and smoke one himself.
