Short description
Portland, Oregon, 1971. Bob Hughes is the charismatic leader of a peculiar quartet, formed by his wife, Dianne, and another couple, Rick and Nadine, who skillfully steal from drugstores and hospital medicine cabinets in order to appease their insatiable need for drugs. But neither fun nor luck last forever.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Cult writer William S. Burroughs, creator of the legendary “narcotic” book *Naked Lunch*, plays a small role as a former priest.
  • By the time *Drugstore Cowboy* was released, the novel of the same name by James Fogle, on which the film is based, had not yet been published, and its author was in prison for illegal drug distribution. The book went on sale in 1990, and the cover featured the film's stars Matt Dillon and Kelly Lynch.
  • Around the 30th minute of the film, Bob, played by Matt Dillon, accidentally breaks a lamp behind him with a golf club swing. This was a spontaneous event and was not scripted.
