What's left behind the scenes

  • "The Wolf's Call" is what French submariners call the sound emitted by a hydroacoustic station (sonar) towed on the surface of the water to detect submarines at depth. Hearing "the Wolf’s Call" corresponds to the actual detection of a submarine.
  • In France, military acousticians are trained at a specialized educational institution – the "Center for Acoustic Interpretation and Recognition." Since its establishment in 1983, 220 specialists have been trained there, who are referred to as "Golden Ears" in the fleet.
  • D'Orsay (Omar Sy) gives a military salute as is customary in the US Navy – palm down; instead of the French military salute – palm outward.
  • The missile aimed at France was launched from the Pacific Ocean, near Kamchatka. According to the film, it flies over Russia, then over Eastern Europe. But since the Earth’s shape is closer to spherical, the missile should have flown along the shortest route over the North Pole.
