What's left behind the scenes

  • Mark Rolston, who played Dion, was 61 years old at the time of filming. The prototype for his character was actually shot at the age of 32.
  • In those days, men always removed their hats indoors. Wearing a hat inside was considered bad manners and disrespectful.
  • In the boxing match scene, Black people are seated among white people. In the era depicted, Black and white people were seated separately (the only exception being during important boxing matches, such as for a championship title).
  • During the raid, federal agents identify themselves as “FBI.” The term “Federal Bureau of Investigation” did not come into use until 1935, i.e., several years after the events in question.
