What's left behind the scenes
- When Mater, Finn McMissile, and Holly Deluxe were in France, the 'Gusteau' restaurant could be noticed (a reference to another Pixar film – 'Ratatouille'). However, Gusteau himself was in an auto-prototype (he looks very much like Mater).
- Among Professor Z's possessions, one can notice a group of ZAZ 968 cars, or rather its export version, the Jalta 968.
- John Lasseter conceived the story for the sequel back in 2006 while in Europe promoting the first animated film.
- During the race in Radiator Springs, you can spot a Planet Pizza car among the fans (a reference to "Toy Story"). This car appears in all films produced by Pixar.
- All car brands correspond to the countries where they are manufactured. For example, Italy has many "Ferrari" and "Fiat" cars, Japan has "Mazda" and "Subaru", and the United Kingdom has "Land Rover" and "Bentley".
- Out of respect for Paul Newman, who passed away in 2008, the character of Doc Hudson was not included in the second film. To mention Doc Hudson in the film, they decided to name the Piston Cup in his honor. It is also reported that Doc has passed away.
