- Director Patrick Cassir wanted to achieve greater realism, so he allowed the actors to improvise.
- Patrick Cassir, screenwriter and actress Camille Shamou, who played Marion, and designer Samantha Gordowski traveled around Bulgaria by car for three months in search of filming locations.
- Patrick Cassir and Camille Shamou chose Bulgaria because they wanted to find a country not entirely prepared for tourism. They decided that Bulgaria had seas not too blue, more concrete than sand, and a national cuisine that would stump any Frenchman.
