What's left behind the scenes
- Renée Zellweger performs Judy's famous songs herself. To prepare, she took vocal lessons with Eric Vetro for a year. Matt Dunkley then served as her musical director, and they rehearsed for four months.
- During makeup application, Renée Zellweger's nose was slightly lengthened to more closely resemble Judy Garland's (1922-1969) profile. The actress wore dark gray contact lenses and a special wig.
- A loose adaptation of Peter Quilter's play 'End of the Rainbow' (2005).
- Prior to the film's release, Liza Minnelli wrote on social media that she had never met or spoken with Renée Zellweger and indicated that she was cool to the idea of a film about Garland, but would not try to prevent it.
