For filming, John Krasinski changed his hairstyle. This same change was reflected (and explained) in the series 'The Office' (2005-2013), where he played Jim.
The script was written in 1993. The screenwriters took it to Steven Soderbergh, who in turn forwarded it to Casey Silver, then Vice President of 'Universal Pictures'. Silver then left the studio and became an independent producer, after which Soderbergh raised the issue of the script again and brought George Clooney on board the project, who subsequently became the film's director.
George Clooney doesn't ride a vintage motorcycle from that era, but a specially built replica that runs on electricity.
Over four hundred extras were hired for the filming.
In preparation for filming, George Clooney rewatched many old comedies.
The 'Duluth Bulldogs' team was, to a certain extent, modeled after the National Football League's 'Duluth Kelleys/Eskimos' team, which existed from 1923 to 1927.
