Short description
A recently slain cop joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department and tries to find the man who murdered him.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on the comic book “R.I.P.D.” by Peter M. Lenkov (2001).
  • Zach Galifianakis was considered for the role of Roy Powell, but left the project due to scheduling conflicts.
  • Jodie Foster was considered for the role of Procter.
  • One of the scenes was filmed in the Hynes Convention Center, which is half a mile from Copley Square, where Jeff Bridges nearly died in real life during the filming of the truck bomb explosion scene from 'The Fuse' (1994).
  • This is the fourth time Ryan Reynolds has starred in a film based on a comic book. He previously played Hannibal King in 'Blade: Trinity' (2004), Deadpool in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' (2009), and Hal Jordan in 'Green Lantern' (2011).
  • In the US and some other countries, this film was released on the same day as 'RED 2' (2013), a sequel to 'RED' (2010) directed by Robert Schwentke, the director of 'R.I.P.D.', and also starring Mary-Louise Parker. Furthermore, it was released two days after the animated film 'Turbo' (2013), in which Ryan Reynolds voiced one of the characters.
  • Roy and Nick's car number is 314159, which is an approximation of the number Pi.
  • One of the Boston police cars at the raid where Nick is killed has markings from the same fictional district A-8 as in the films "Papa-Dosvidanya" (2012) and "City of Thieves" (2010).
  • At the end of the final chase with the large monster on the hood, Nick and Roy crash into a wall that partially collapses. However, in the following shots, when they exit the car, the wall is seen to be intact.
  • One of the Boston police cars at the raid where Nick is killed bears markings from the same fictional district A-8 as in the films "The Paperboy" (2012) and "The Town" (2010).
