Short description
Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.
What's left behind the scenes
- Ever Anderson was cast as young Natasha because she already knew Russian and held a green belt in taekwondo.
- The tasers on Black Widow's wrists are yellow. This is a tribute to the original image of Natasha Romanoff – a black suit and yellow bracelets.
- Scarlett Johansson tried to rehearse her lines with her husband, actor Colin Jost (a big fan of Marvel comics), but he refused, stating that he didn't want to know what would happen in the film beforehand.
- The screenplay for the film was written by David Hayter, who was also supposed to direct the project in 2014, when the rights to the adaptation still belonged to Artisan Entertainment/Lions Gate.
- For the past decade, both Johansson and Marvel had expressed interest in the idea of making Black Widow films. Eventually, in 2018, Jacqueline Schaeffer was brought on as the screenwriter, and Kate Shortland was chosen as the director of the future film, although Shortland had never directed big-budget blockbusters before.
- According to the film, Alexei Shostakov (also known as Red Guardian) acts as an older comrade and mentor to Natasha Romanoff (or Black Widow). In the original comics, Alexei and Natasha were husband and wife.
