• The lead role was originally written for a white actress. Director Tate Taylor ordered the script to be rewritten and the character made African American after showing the script to Spencer and hearing that she herself would not refuse the role.
• Diana Silvers, who played Maggie, lied about her height to get the role, saying she was 177 cm tall, when in reality she is almost 180 cm tall.
• The screenplay was based on a story that happened to Adam Divine in high school. He later told everything to Scotty Landis, a friend of his, who reworked it into a script. Divine and his friends met an adult woman who bought them beer and allowed them to drink it at her apartment, ordering them to call her 'Mom'. At some point, Divine had too much to drink, and she put him to bed, then told her teenage daughter to lie down next to him. Divine's friends pulled him out of bed and took him away from the situation.
