Short description
After a whirlwind romance with a wealthy widower, a naïve bride moves to his family estate but can't escape the haunting shadow of his late wife.
What's left behind the scenes
- An adaptation of the novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier (1907-1989), which served as the basis for the famous musical (libretto by Michael Kunze, music by Sylvester Levay).
- Both in the original book and in Alfred Hitchcock's 1940 film, the new Mrs. De Winter is never named, while the previous Mrs. De Winter is consistently referred to by name.
- Dreamworks worked on the creation of the film at the time; the screenplay was written by Steven Knight, and it was directed by Nikolay Arcel.
