Short description
Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye and the Dora Milaje fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia and Everett Ross and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Tenoch Huerta, who played the ruler of the underwater kingdom, could not swim. When director and screenwriter Ryan Coogler offered him the role and asked about his swimming ability, he replied: “You can see for yourself, I haven’t drowned yet.” Huerta took swimming lessons in preparation for the role.
  • It was assumed that Daniel Kaluuya would reprise his role as W'Kabi (a role he played for Coogler in "Black Panther" in 2018), but he was busy filming Jordan Peele's sci-fi film "Nope" (2022).
  • In preparation for filming, Tenoch Huerta learned the Mayan language.
  • The first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe without a musical theme in the opening. The opening features footage of Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa – in memory of the prematurely deceased actor.
  • In 2014, Chadwick Boseman signed a contract with “Marvel Studios” to appear in five films. This film would be the last of five feature films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with him in the role of Black Panther.
  • Ryan Coogler nearly turned down directing this film and almost left the profession altogether after the death of Chadwick Boseman – it was so difficult for him to cope with the loss of the actor and close friend. One way or another, remembering his last conversation with Boseman, he still decided not to abandon the project.
  • Research has shown that in many African cultures there is a custom of shaving the head as a sign of mourning, which is why Shuri has short hair – because T'Challa died a year ago.
  • In Haiti, Nakia lives at number 1804. This is a significant year in Haitian history – it was the year that French colonial rule came to an end (this happened on January 1, 1804).
  • Given the significant amount of underwater filming, costume designer Ruth E. Carter specifically submerged some Talokan costumes in water and kept them there to understand how the material behaves underwater (Talokan is an underwater kingdom).
  • The son of T'Challa and Nakia, who is shown in the credits, bears the Haitian name Toussaint. Toussaint Louverture was the leader of the Haitian Revolution, who fought against the French in the largest slave revolt since the Spartacus uprising almost two thousand years ago for the abolition of slavery and the establishment of an independent Haitian state. This reflects Black Panther's desire to protect Wakanda and its freedom.
  • That Toussaint, also known as T’Challa II, would appear in this film was known from the very beginning of work on the picture, but initially it was planned that he would play a more significant role in all these events. Unfortunately, his participation was significantly reduced due to the death of Chadwick Boseman.
