Although the plot is set in Paris, almost all the scenes were filmed in California.
The role of Zed was written specifically for Eric Stoltz.
Translated from Latin, the name Zoe means 'life'.
According to director Roger Avery, the first thing that came to his mind was the film's title – “Killing Zoe,” and he started building the plot around it.
The film was shot before “Pulp Fiction” in 1993, but was only released in 1994. This was largely due to the fact that the commission demanded the removal of several excessively violent scenes.
The director's cut has a runtime of 99 minutes.
