Short description
Since his arrival at Buckingham palace, Rex lives a life of luxury. Top dog, he has superseded his three fellow Corgis in Her Majesty’s heart. His arrogance can be quite irritating. When he causes a diplomatic incident during an official dinner with the President of the United States, he falls into disgrace. Betrayed by one of his peers, Rex becomes a stray dog in the streets of London. How can he redeem himself? In love, he will find the resources to surpass himself in the face of great danger…

What's left behind the scenes

  • The project’s history began in 2002 with a screenplay that John Smith and Rob Sprackling sold to the American studio Montecito. The project sat on the shelf until 2016. Ben Stassen bought it from the studio and then, together with the authors, reworked the screenplay. To finish the script, the team had to wait for the end of the presidential elections in America.
  • The authors transformed the initially conceived duel between Rex and Tyson into a frantic chase with minimal violence.
  • The initially planned scene in which Rex returned to Buckingham Palace with his beloved Wanda was rewritten – in the end, not only the couple, but the entire dog pack showed up at the palace.
  • One of the key scenes in the first part of the film was the royal dinner. Initially, the script featured a lavish reception, but this would have been too expensive in terms of animation costs. It was decided to rewrite the scene, turning it into a private reception attended only by the royal couple and the president with his wife.
  • The stunt scene and Rex’s fall down the stairs initially involved him flying out the window and landing directly into the arms of Prince Philip while he was being photographed with members of the royal family. The authors decided to simplify this in favor of other scenes.
  • The original script featured six main characters, not four as it ultimately turned out.
