Short description
A famous opera singer is held hostage in South America by a guerrilla rebel group after performing at a Japanese businessman's lavish birthday party. Unexpected bonds are forged in the standoff that ensues.
What's left behind the scenes
- In 1996, Ken Watanabe was filming in Peru just a week before the hostage crisis at the Japanese embassy in Lima on December 17th by the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement. This story formed the basis of the plot.
- The film was shot in Mexico.
- Julianne Moore is not an opera singer, and she simply mimed the singing in the corresponding scenes. She has sung in other films before, but singing opera is too difficult, and the audience heard soprano Renée Fleming instead of Moore.
