The Art of Racing in the Rain

The Art of Racing in the Rain tells its story from the point of view of Enzo, a dog with an unusually reflective outlook on life. He watches television, listens closely to the people around him and measures what he has learned against the experiences of his owner, Denny Swift, a racing driver working to establish himself in the sport. Over the years the two share the ups and downs that come with Denny's career and with family life, and the film follows Enzo's recollections of those events. It is based on the novel by Garth Stein.

Simon Curtis directed the film, which sits between Goodbye Christopher Robin and Downton Abbey: A New Era in his filmography. Mark Bomback wrote the screenplay, and Neal H. Moritz, Patrick Dempsey and Tania Landau produced. Kevin Costner voices Enzo, with Milo Ventimiglia as Denny, Amanda Seyfried as Eve, Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the young Zoë, Lily Dodsworth-Evans as the older Zoë, and Ian Lake as Mike. It runs 109 minutes and blends comedy, drama, family and romance.

Made for about 18 million dollars, the film took in roughly 34 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.6 out of 10 from around 48,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 8.2 out of 10 from a much smaller base of about 1,700 votes. A critics' score of 5.3 out of 10 from 120 reviews is noticeably lower than either audience figure.
