What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, Gromit was supposed to be a cat, but then the cat was changed to a dog voiced by Peter Hawkins. It soon became clear that Gromit had excellent facial expressions, and they decided to make him mute.
  • It took over 6 years to create the film, and Nick Park worked on it practically alone. The film became his graduation project at the National Film and Television School, which is why he is also listed as a producer in the credits.
  • Initially, the film was 40 minutes long, and the plot included an episode where the characters discovered a fast-food restaurant on the Moon and met a wide variety of characters.
  • To work on the film, Nick Park ordered a long or English ton (1016 kg) of plasticine. The resulting plasticine turned out to be 10 different colors.
  • For voicing Wallace, Nick Park offered Peter Sallis 50 pounds sterling, and to Park's surprise, he agreed. When, 6 years later, Park called Sallis to tell him that work on the film was completed, it was Sallis's turn to be surprised.
