What's left behind the scenes
- Buster Scruggs refuses to play when he is dealt a pair of aces and a pair of eights. This combination is called a "dead man's hand." It is believed that this is the hand Wild Bill Hickok (1837-1876) held just before he was shot.
- In the chapter "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs," the final frames briefly show a prayer: "We send him to You, as You sent others to us. Receive him, Lord, and do not send him back."
- In the second story, "Under the Algodones," during the shootout scene, the robber knocks the lid off an old man’s chest with his second shot, and in the next frame, he hits the lid again, which he had already knocked off with the second shot.
