• Producer Jason Blum wanted Nicolas Cage to play Mr. Rourke, but he declined the offer to participate in the filming, and the role went to Michael Peña.
• Director and screenwriter Jeff Wadlow reimagined a childhood dream of a magical island in the horror genre. The film was inspired by Drew Goddard's horror film "The Cabin in the Woods" (2011) and the HBO series "Westworld" (2016-2022).
• The house shown in the film is located on the islands of Fiji. The filmmakers added some elements to the house and its surroundings using computer technology – for example, a turret and a rocky hill. In 2017, the house itself and 60 hectares of land around it were put up for sale for $8.8 million.
