• Greg Rucka wrote the first draft of the screenplay, but then Charlize Theron joined the project and requested some changes. Rucka rewrote the script, but was soon fired. Theron's production company hired other screenwriters, but their version was completely unsatisfactory. When Gina Prince-Bythewood became involved as director, she rehired Rucka, and the issue was finally resolved.
• The first action scene was very difficult to shoot, as the actors rehearsed it separately. The male actors rehearsed in London, while Theron rehearsed in Los Angeles. Shooting the scene took a week.
• The London pub shown in the film is the famous “Prospect of Whitby,” also known as “The Devil’s Tavern.” It is one of the oldest establishments of its kind in London, having opened around 1520, and was perfectly suited for the meeting of the main characters.
