Steve and Dennis (played by Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan, respectively) sit down by the side of the road to talk while walking through New Orleans. The house across from which they stop once belonged to writer, screenwriter, and producer Anne Rice.
The film states that a synthetic drug called Synchronic is made from a red plant (flower) that grows in the California desert. This is a reference to the plant smoked by members of the commune in The Endless project.
Steve's dog (played by Anthony Mackie) is named Hawking. The dog was named in honor of Stephen Hawking – a British theoretical physicist, astrophysicist, and writer. Additionally, the dog is the same breed as Doc Brown's dog, Einstein, in Robert Zemeckis's adventure science fiction film "Back to the Future" (1985). Both dogs are used to test the safety of time travel.
